10-18-2026 Sermon Title: WHY WORRY WHEN YOU CAN TRUST GOD

A Message of Faith, Peace, and Confidence in God's Promises

Primary Scripture: Matthew 6:25–34 Supporting Scriptures: Philippians 4:6–7; 1 Peter 5:7; Proverbs 3:5–6; Isaiah 26:3 Theme: Worry focuses on what might happen, but faith focuses on the God who holds tomorrow.

Church, I want to talk about something today that every one of us has experienced at some point in our lives.

I'm talking about WORRY! CHRISTIANS WORRY TOO! I KNOW THIS MESSDAGE IS SOMEONE IN THE BUILDING OR ONLINE. WHILE I WAS WRITEN THIS MESSAGE, MY DAILY JESUS CALLING AFFIRMED….THIS MESSAGE ….ANXIETY IS A RESULT OF envisioning the future without Me. So the best defense against worry is

staying in communication with Me. When you turn your thoughts toward Me, you can think much more positively. Remember to listen, as well as to speak, making your thoughts a dialogue with Me.

The Bible repeatedly tells us “Fear not,” “Do not be afraid,” and “Do not worry.”  IT APPEARS 365 times—one for every day of the year. DEPENDING ON THE VERSION YOU ARE READING. ONE FOR EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR…

Now, before anybody gets too holy this morning, let me ask you a question.

Have you ever been worried about something AS A CHRISTIAN?

Have you ever gone to bed tired, but your mind wouldn't let you sleep?

Have you ever prayed about something on Sunday, but by Monday morning you were worrying about that same thing all over again?

Have you ever told somebody, "I'm trusting God," while secretly trying to figure out how you were going to fix everything yourself?

If we're truthful this morning, we have all been there!

THIS MORNING: Somebody is worried about their health,

Children, marriage, paying their bills, getting older, doctor might say.

And somebody is worried about something that hasn't even happened yet!

Isn't it amazing how we can allow tomorrow's problems to rob us of today's peace?

We worry about things we cannot change, situations we cannot control, and circumstances we cannot predict.

(SAY THE SERINITY PRAYER WITH ME: GOD GRANT ME THE SERINITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE, THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENT)

And here's what makes it interesting: We are Christians!

We believe in God. We read the Bible. We sing songs about trusting Jesus. We testify about how God made a way out of no way.

But sometimes, when trouble comes knocking at our door, we act as though we've forgotten who our Father is what Jesus has done for us!

I’M HERE TO REMIND US.

The same God who brought you through yesterday is the God who will take care of you tomorrow!

And that's why my sermon today is entitled:

"WHY WORRY WHEN YOU CAN TRUST GOD?"

POINT 1: WORRY MAKES US FORGET WHO IS IN CONTROL

Listen to what Jesus says in Matthew 6:25 (KJV):

25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

Jesus is speaking to people who have real needs.

They need food. They need clothing. They need shelter.

They need security.

And Jesus is not pretending that those needs don't exist.

He is teaching them that their needs should not become greater than their confidence in God.

Jesus is not telling us to stop thinking, planning, or being responsible.

He is telling us not to allow worry to take control of our lives.

There is a difference between being concerned about something and being consumed by something.

REMEMBER:

Concern can motivate us to act.

But worry can paralyze us with fear.

Concern says, "I need to do what I can."

Worry says, "What if everything goes wrong?"

Concern says, "I need to prepare for tomorrow."

Worry says, "I cannot enjoy today because I'm afraid of tomorrow."

And that's where many Christians struggle.

We believe God is in control, but we keep trying to take the steering wheel! (WE SHOULD SAY CARRY UNDERWOOD SONG. JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL)

We say, "Lord, I surrender all."

But sometimes what we really mean is, "Lord, I surrender everything except the things I'm worried about!"

LISTEN TO THIS

God never asked you to control everything. He asked you to trust Him in everything. There are situations in your life that you cannot fix.

There are people you cannot change. There are doors you cannot force open. There are answers you cannot produce.

But what you cannot control is never beyond God's knowledge or His power.     Somebody ought to say, "Lord, help me trust You!"

POINT 2: WORRY CANNOT CHANGE YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES

Matthew 6:27 says:

"  Which of you by worrying can add one [j]cubit to his [k]stature?

Jesus asks a powerful question. What can worry accomplish? Can worry add another day to your life? Can worry change yesterday OR guarantee tomorrow? NO!

Can worry make somebody love you? Can worry heal a broken relationship? Can worry erase a doctor's diagnosis?   NO!

Worry WILL exhaust your mind, disturb your sleep, and steal your joy, AND it cannot guarantee the outcome you desire.

Let me say it another way:

Annette and like to eat at this particular restaurant and we like sitting in a rocking chair. It gives us something to do while we wait, but it doesn't get you anywhere! You can rock all day long. You can rock all night long.

You can rock until you're tired.

But when you get out of that chair, you're still in the same place!

That's what worry does.

POINT 3: WORRY OFTEN MAKES US FORGET GOD'S PROVISION

Matthew 6:26

"6 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"

Jesus tells His disciples to look at the birds.

Think about that!

Jesus uses something as ordinary as a bird to teach us something extraordinary about God.

Birds don't have bank accounts. They don't have retirement plans. They don't have Social Security. They don't have a 401(k). They don't have a refrigerator full of groceries.

Yet God has provided a world in which they can find food.

Now, that doesn't mean birds sit around doing nothing.

Birds get up and search for food. They build nests.

They care for their young. They do what they were created to do.

And Jesus reminds us that God cares for them.

Then He asks:

"Are ye not much better than they?"

In other words, if God cares about the birds, don't you know He cares about you?

You are not forgotten. You are not invisible. You are not insignificant. You are a child of God!

And your heavenly Father knows what you need.

POINT 4: WORRY LOOKS AT THE PROBLEM, BUT FAITH LOOKS TO GOD

Philippians 4:6–7:

" 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Notice what Paul says.

He doesn't say that Christians will never have problems.

He doesn't say that life will always be easy.

He doesn't say that every prayer will be answered the way we want.

Instead, Paul tells us what to do when trouble comes.

PRAY!

When the bills are piling up—pray! (ANYBODY BEEN THERE BESIDES ME?)

When your children are making decisions that trouble your heart—pray!

When your marriage is going through a difficult season—pray!

When the doctor gives you a report you didn't want to hear—pray!

When you don't know what tomorrow holds—pray

CONCLUSION:

I want to ask you a question.

How much of your life have you spent worrying about things you could not control?

How many sleepless nights wasted? How many anxious mornings?

How many moments of joy have been overshadowed by fear?

How many times have you allowed a problem to become bigger in your mind than the promises of God?

Well, I've come to remind somebody that God has not called us to live as prisoners of worry.

He has called us to walk by faith.

And I believe there comes a time in every Christian's life when we have to make up our minds.

I'm going to trust God when I understand.

And I'm going to trust God when I don't understand.

I'm going to trust God when the sun is shining.

And I'm going to trust God when the storm clouds gather.

I'm going to trust God when the bank account is full.

And I'm going to trust God when money is tight.

I'm going to trust God when the doctor's report is good.

And I'm going to trust God when the diagnosis brings uncertainty.

Somebody knows what I'm talking about!

You didn't make it this far by yourself!

You didn't survive every storm by your own strength!

You didn't get through every difficult season because you had all the answers!

It was the grace of God! It was the mercy of God! It was the goodness of God! (THAT A SONG THE GOODNESS OF GOD)

And if He has brought you this far, you can trust Him with the road ahead.

The Greatest Reason We Can Trust God

the greatest evidence of God's love is not that He has promised us a trouble-free life.

The greatest evidence of His love is what He did for us through Jesus Christ.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.

WHY WORRY WHEN YOU CAN TRUST GOD?

Can the church say AMEN!

CLOSING PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with grateful hearts, thanking You for Your goodness, Your mercy, and Your unfailing love.

Lord, You know that sometimes we worry.

We worry about our families. We worry about our health.

We worry about our finances.

We worry about our children and grandchildren.

And sometimes we worry about things that may never happen.

Father, forgive us for the times when we have allowed fear to overshadow our faith.

Help us to remember that You are still in control.

Teach us to do what we can, to seek wisdom where we need it, and to trust You with the things that are beyond our control.

Lord, for those who are carrying heavy burdens today, give them strength.

For those who are struggling with anxiety, give them comfort and the support they need.

For those who are facing sickness, grant them healing, courage, and peace.

For those who are experiencing financial difficulties, open doors of opportunity and provide for their needs.

For parents worried about their children, grant wisdom, patience, and hope.

And for those who are afraid of tomorrow, remind them that Your grace is sufficient for today.

Lord, help us to stop borrowing trouble from tomorrow and begin appreciating the blessings of today.

When our minds become troubled, remind us to pray.

When our hearts become fearful, remind us of Your promises.

When our faith becomes weak, remind us of Your faithfulness.

And when the storms of life begin to rage, help us remember that we are never beyond Your loving care.

In the mighty, precious, and wonderful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray.

And all of God's people said, AMEN, AMEN, AND AMEN!
