Sermon Title: How to Obtain and Keep Peace in Your Life

Introduction

We live in a world that is full of unrest. Nations are at war. Families are divided. Financial pressures, health challenges, disappointments, and uncertainty can rob us of peace.

Cameras are looking at you everywhere you go…

Our phones are listing to everything we say..

The is movie out called Mercy….about AI Court trial

Many people are searching for peace in money, relationships, entertainment, or success, yet they remain empty.

The peace the world offers is temporary. The peace Jesus offers is eternal.

Jesus said in John 14:27:

27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Notice He didn't just promise peace—He gave His peace.

Today I want you to obtain God's peace and how to keep it.

2. Peace Begins with a Relationship with God

Romans 5:1

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

There are two kinds of peace:

  • Peace with God

  • Peace of God

You cannot have the peace of God until you first have peace with God.

Sin separates us from God.

Isaiah 59:2 says,

"Your iniquities have separated between you and your God."

Jesus came to restore that broken relationship.

The Cross wasn't just about forgiveness.

It was about reconciliation.

When we surrender our lives to Christ, the war between us and God ends.

Only then can real peace begin.

Application

Ask yourself:

  • Have I truly surrendered to Christ?

  • Have I received His forgiveness?

Peace starts at the Cross.

Trust God Instead of Worrying

Philippians 4:6

"Be careful for nothing..."

The word "careful" means anxious or full of worry.

Worry is assuming responsibility for things God never intended you to carry.

Jesus addressed worry in Matthew 6.

He reminded His followers that if God feeds the birds and clothes the lilies, He will certainly care for His children.

Worry accomplishes nothing.

WORRYING DOES NOT TAKE AWAY TOMORROWS TROUBLES. IT TAKES AWAYS TODAY’S PEACE>>>>>

It cannot:

  • Add one hour to your life.

  • Solve tomorrow's problems.

  • Change yesterday's mistakes.

Instead...

Bring everything to God.

Paul says:

"...but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."

Notice three words:

  • Prayer

  • Supplication

  • Thanksgiving

Prayer releases the burden.

Thanksgiving reminds us of God's faithfulness.

Faith replaces fear.

4 Guard Your Mind (THIS IS A BIG ONE)

Philippians 4:8

Paul tells believers what to think about.

Our thoughts determine our peace.

If we constantly feed on fear...

Our peace disappears.

If we continually dwell on negative news...( THE SKY IS FALLING)

Peace disappears.

If we replay offenses...

Peace disappears.

Paul says think on things that are:

  • True

  • Honest

  • Just

  • Pure

  • Lovely

  • Of good report

  • Virtuous

  • Praiseworthy

Your mind is like a garden.

Whatever you continually plant is what grows.

If you have ever listen to a suicide HOTLINE conversation…. THERE IS NEVER POSTIVE COMING FROM THE PERSON CALLING…

Application

Protect what enters your mind.

Be careful:

  • what you watch

  • what you listen to

  • who influences you

  • how much negative information you consume

Peace grows where godly thoughts are planted.

5 Learn to Forgive

Bitterness is one of the greatest enemies of peace.

Holding unforgiveness is like drinking poison while hoping someone else dies.

Ephesians 4:31-32 says:

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, [i]clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. Forgiveness doesn't excuse the offense.

Forgiveness releases you from carrying the burden. (Ann Newlin Story)

Some people have lost years of peace because they refuse to let go.

Jesus forgave us.

We must forgive others.

6 Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

When Peter walked on water, he had peace while looking at Jesus.

The moment he focused on the storm...

He began to sink.

The storms hadn't changed.

His focus had.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.

Peace is not found in favorable circumstances.

Peace is found by focusing on Christ.

7 Live One Day at a Time

Many people lose today's peace worrying about tomorrow.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:34:

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things

God gives grace for today.

Tomorrow's grace arrives tomorrow.

WORRYING DOES NOT TAKE AWAY TOMORROWS TROUBLES. IT TAKES AWAYS TODAY’S PEACE>>>>>

 Share Peace with Others

Jesus called believers peacemakers.

Matthew 5:9

"Blessed are the peacemakers..."

Peace isn't just something we receive.

It's something we carry.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I creating peace?

  • Or am I creating conflict?

God's people should bring calm into chaos.

Practical Steps to Keep Your Peace

  1. Begin each day in prayer.

  2. Read God's Word daily.

  3. Refuse to entertain worry.

  4. Practice gratitude every day.

  5. Forgive quickly.

  6. Surround yourself with godly influences.

  7. Trust God's timing.

  8. Keep your focus on Christ.

  9. Obey God's Word.

10. Rest in God's promises.

Conclusion

Peace is not the absence of problems.

Peace is the presence of Christ in the middle of your problems.

Paul wrote many of his letters from prison.

Yet he spoke continually about peace.

His circumstances did not determine his peace.

His relationship with Christ did.

Jesus never promised a trouble-free life.

He promised His presence.

John 16:33

"In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being the God of peace. Forgive us for the times we have allowed worry, fear, bitterness, and doubt to take root in our hearts. Help us to trust You completely, to keep our minds fixed on Your truth, and to walk in obedience to Your Word. Fill us with the peace that only Jesus can give—a peace that steadies us in every storm and guards our hearts and minds. Make us instruments of Your peace in our homes, our churches, and our communities. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
