Sermon Title: “Jesus’ Mission for Us”
Scripture Text:
Matthew 28:18–20
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Introduction
Church, we are living in a time where the world is more connected than ever before, yet people are still lost without Jesus Christ. There are millions sitting in churches every Sunday, but there are also millions sitting in homes, prisons, hospitals, schools, colleges, and on street corners who have never truly heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Mission is not just something the church does. Mission is who the church is.
Jesus did not save us just to sit on padded pews.
He saved us to become witnesses.
He saved us to become laborers in the harvest.
He saved us to carry the Gospel from our neighborhoods to the nations.
The Great Commission was not a suggestion.
It was a command from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We are starting this here at South Plainfield Friends as we are slowly transitioning to meet and serve people in our current world and community. (ANOTHER SERMON)
I. The Mission Starts at Home
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Jerusalem represented home.
Before we can reach the world, we must first reach our own communities.
America needs mission work.
We often think of missionaries only going overseas, but there are people in the United States who are spiritually broken, addicted, lonely, hopeless, and far from God.
There are neighborhoods filled with violence.
Families torn apart.
Young people searching for identity.
Schools removing God.
Communities suffering from depression and fear.
The mission field is everywhere.
The church must:

Feed the hungry
-
Visit the sick
-
Encourage the broken
-
Pray for communities
-
Share the Gospel boldly
-
Love people where they are
Mission is more than preaching inside the church walls.
Mission is carrying Jesus outside the church walls. We spend the majority of our time outside the WALLS of this Building…..
Sometimes the greatest mission trip is across the street.
II. The Mission Requires Compassion
Matthew 9:36
“But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them…”
Jesus looked at people differently.
He did not see races, politics, or social status.
He saw souls.
Real missions begin when the church’s heart breaks for what breaks the heart of God.
You cannot truly love Jesus and not care about lost people.
Mission work is not about building our name.
It is about lifting up the name of Jesus.
We must never become so comfortable inside the church that we forget the people outside the church.
There are people:

Dying without Christ
-
Living without hope
-
Searching for purpose
-
Looking for love in all the wrong places
And the answer is still Jesus.
Not government.
Not money.
Not fame.
Not politics.
Jesus is still the answer for America and for the world.
III. The Mission Extends Around the World
Mark 16:15 (KJV)
“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
The Gospel has no borders.
God did not call the church to reach only one nation, one culture, or one people group.
He called us to reach the world.
There are villages without churches.
Countries where Christianity is persecuted.
Places where people risk their lives just to own a Bible.
While we worship freely in America, many believers around the world worship in secret.
That is why missions matter.
We support missions by: (Mission Sunday)
-
Going
-
Giving
-
Praying
-
Encouraging missionaries
-
Sending resources
-
Sharing the Gospel wherever God places us
Some are called to foreign nations.
Some are called to local communities.
But every believer is called to participate in mission.
You may never preach in Africa, Asia, or South America, but your prayers and support can help carry the Gospel there.
V. The Church Must Rise Up
Church, now is not the time to retreat.
Now is not the time to become silent.
Now is the time for believers to stand boldly and proclaim Jesus Christ.
America needs revival.
The nations need revival.
Families need revival.
Young people need revival.
And revival begins when the church returns to its mission.
The world does not need a powerless church.
The world needs a praying church.
A loving church.
A witnessing church.
A Spirit-filled church.
Conclusion
One day every nation, every tribe, and every tongue will stand before the throne of God.
Revelation 7:9
“9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.”
What a glorious day that will be.
But until that day comes, the mission continues.
There are still souls to reach.
There are still lives to touch.
There are still people waiting to hear about Jesus.
The question today is not whether the mission is important.
The question is:
Will we answer the call?
Will you say today:
“Lord, here am I; send me.”
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank You for calling us to be Your hands and feet in a hurting world. Give us boldness to share Your truth in America and around the world. Break our hearts for lost souls. Fill us with compassion, wisdom, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Use this church to shine Your light in dark places. Raise up missionaries, pastors, evangelists, and faithful servants who will carry Your message to every nation. Let revival begin in us today. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Jesus,
I know that I need You.
I believe You died for my sins
and rose again to give me new life.
Today, I turn from my old ways
and give my life fully to You.

change me,………and lead me ……from this day forward.
I trust You as my Savior,
Thank You for loving me and saving me.
Amen.
