07-26-2026 Sermon Title: Walking in God's Will: Experiencing God Daily
8 million books have been sold, but the book is just the beginning
Scripture Focus:
John 5:17, 19 (NIV)
“Jesus said to them, ‘My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.’ … Jesus gave them this answer: ‘Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.’”
Introduction:
Have you ever asked, “What is God’s will for my life?”
As Believers we want to please God, but we often feel uncertain—afraid we’ll make the wrong move or miss His voice.
But the good news is: God is not silent.
He is always at work around you, and He invites you to join Him.
This is the heartbeat of Henry and Richard Blackaby’s message in “Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God.”
It’s not about asking God to bless our plans; it’s about discovering where He is working and joining Him in where He is at WORK
Example: Incident at the Lake Praying for the young man at the peer
Pat Wickham at my former church call them Devine Appointments
1. God is Always at Work Around You
Jesus said in John 5:17, “My Father is always at His work to this very day.”
This means that no matter how silent things may feel in your life, God is active.
He is working in your family, your workplace, your community, and THIS MEETING.
Application: Open your spiritual eyes. Ask the Holy Spirit, “Where are You working today?” You’ll begin to see Divine opportunities or Divine appointments all around you. And you will have choice to JOIN HIM OR NOT
2. God Invites You Into Relationship With Him
The will of God is not discovered by accident or intellect—it’s revealed through relationship.
Blackaby says, “You come to know God by experience as you obey Him and He accomplishes His work through you.” (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE LIFE EVENTS DISTRACTS FROM (JOING HIM WHERE HE IS AT WORK)
Moses didn’t stumble into God’s will. He encountered God in relationship through a burning bush—and that changed the trajectory of his life.
Key Point: God doesn’t just want to give you a roadmap. He wants to walk with you daily. (YOU CAN’T CHANGE YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW ISN’T PROMISED) FOCUS ON TODAY
3. God Speaks
God reveals Himself and His purposes through:
-
The Bible
-
Prayer
-
Circumstances
-
This Meeting (other believers) and all other and Churches in our communities
Just like Jesus, who watched what the Father was doing (John 5:19), we must listen and look to where God is leading YOU.
Challenge: Are you quiet enough to hear Him? Have you paused long enough to listen in your prayer time with Him? AT SOME POINT DOING THE DAY, GET ALONE WITH GOD…
4. God’s Invitation Will Lead You to a Crisis of Belief
When God calls, it will stretch your faith.
It may be inconvenient, risky, or uncomfortable—but it will always be worth it.
Abraham had to leave his homeland.
Peter had to step out of the boat.
You will have to make a decision: Will I trust God, or will I lean on my own understanding?
Quote from the book:
"You cannot stay where you are and go with God."
EXAMAPLE :Annette and I stepped out of our comfort zone and went to Science Hill and Here. We are Blessed and it stretched OUR FAITH!
5. You Must Adjust Your Life to Join God
You can’t follow God and remain the same.
Following Him means **realignment—**your schedule, your priorities, your comfort zones.
Think of Noah building an ark in a land with no rain, or Paul giving up status and safety to preach the gospel.
They adjusted because they believed.
Question: What might you need to surrender in YOUR LIFE in order to walk in God’s will?
We had to give up (Denominational Differences)
I still remain Steve Proctors saying ‘PREACH THE WORD ALVIN’
MY GOODNESS!!! What a BLESSING IT’S BEEN JOING GOD WHERE HE IS AT WORK HERE AT South Plainfield Friends
6. You Come to Know God by Experience
God's will isn't just a plan—it's a relationship that transforms you.
When you step out in faith and obey, you see God's power at work through you. I can told you stay after story about stepping out on faith (ANNETTE AND I ARE LIVING PROOF) AMEN!!
Obedience brings intimacy. You no longer just know about God—you begin to know Him.
Encouragement: If you're unsure about God's will—take the next step of obedience. Trust that He’ll guide you step by step.
Conclusion:
-
The will of God is not a mystery to be solved—it is a Person to be followed.
-
God is working around you.
-
He invites you into relationship.
-
He speaks.
-
He calls you to adjust.
And when you obey, you will experience Him like never before
Closing Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Call to Action: (DO THIS THIS WEEK)
-
Spend time this week praying, “God, where are You working around me?”
-
Be willing to let go of your plans to follow His.
-
Take a step of faith.
-
Watch how God shows up—not just to work through you—but to reveal more of Himself to you.
Prayer:
Father, We confess that too often we seek my own plans and ask You to bless them, rather than waiting for You to reveal Yours. Teach us to listen carefully, to watch attentively, and to respond immediately when You call.
Give us courage to obey, even when the path is unclear. Remind us that obedience always precedes understanding. Help us to trust that Your will is perfect, Your timing is right, and Your ways are higher than mine.
In Jesus’ name WE pray,
Amen.”*
