04-12-2026 🎙️Sermon Title: “It All Goes Back In The Box”

Scripture Focus:

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” — 1 Timothy 6:7

Introduction

How many of you played the game Monopoly?

There’s a saying that comes from the game of Monopoly—when the game is over…
all the houses, all the hotels, all the money… goes back in the box.

It doesn’t matter who was winning.
It doesn’t matter who owned the most property.
When the game ends—everything goes back in the box.

And church, life is the same way.

Point 1: We Enter With Nothing

— Job 1:21 “Naked came I out of my mother’s womb…”

You didn’t come into this world with:

  • A title

  • A bank account

  • A reputation

You came in with nothing but purpose placed inside of you by God.

We spend so much of our lives trying to gain things, but we forget:
👉 We didn’t bring any of it with us.

Point 2: We Leave With Nothing

Hebrews 9:27 “And it is appointed unto men once to die…” —

At the end of life:

  • Your house stays here

  • Your cars Alvin, Your Trucks Alvin, your NC STATE memorabilia stays here

  • Your money stays here

Your family may fight over it… (Going through that now)
But you won’t take one dime with you.

Just like Monopoly—
when the game is over… it all goes back in the box.

Point 3: The Danger of Living for the Box

— Mark 8:36 “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

There’s a SONG

Some people:

  • Chase status

  • Chase possessions

  • Chase recognition

But neglect their soul.

You can win in the world…
…and still lose in eternity.

Don’t spend your whole life collecting things that won’t leave here with you.

Point 4: What Actually Lasts

Matthew 6:20 “Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…”

What lasts?

  • Your relationship with God

  • The lives you impact

  • The love you give

  • The seeds you sow

These are the things that don’t go back in the box.

Point 5: Live With the End in Mind

Psalms 90:12 “Teach us to number our days…”

If you knew the game was almost over…
you would play differently?

  • Would you forgive quicker ….Love deeper

  • Serve more …….Worship harder

Because you’d realize:👉 This is temporary
👉 Eternity is forever

Closing Illustration

Imagine a man who spent his whole life:

  • Building wealth

  • Collecting possessions

  • Gaining influence

And at the end… he stands before God.

God doesn’t ask:

  • “How much did you make?”

  • “What did you own?”

He asks:
👉 “What did you do with what I gave you?”

And suddenly…
everything he worked for is gone.

Because it all went back in the box.

Altar Call / Invitation

Today is the day to ask yourself:

  • Am I living for things… or for God?

  • Am I storing treasures on earth… or in heaven?

  • If the game ended today… would I be ready?

Because one day…the game will end for all of us.

And when it does…

👉 It all goes back in the box.

Closing Line (Powerful Finish)

Don’t spend your life holding on to what you have to leave behind…
Start living for what you’ll carry into eternity.

Remember:  God will ask you TWO Questions. What do you do with my Son and

What do you do with the gifts I gave you?
